The state legislature created the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority in 1975.  For the rest of the 1970s, our community debated whether or not to utilize the taxing authority of the BDDA to create a dedicated revenue stream for downtown redevelopment.  Ultimately, the community decided to utilize a different mechanism – the Community Redevelopment Area (CRA), or Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district.  For more information on what a CRA is what it can do and how TIF is used, please visit http://www.redevelopment.net/crafaq.aspx.

In 1980, Bradenton’s City Council created the Bradenton CRA and authorized the BDDA’s board of directors to govern the CRA.  You can view the boundaries of the CRA HERE

In 1993, the City Council created the 14th Street CRA and again asked the BDDA board of directors to govern the CRA.  You can view the boundaries of the CRA HERE

Please stay tuned to our website for a listing of the significant investments the DDA has made in each CRA since they were created.
